Navigating Insurance can be a chore.

Rapid Refurb can guide you through the whole process.

A step by step guide to help you understand and navigate your repair claim

Claims Process

Step 1 — File Your Claim

You begin the process by contacting your insurance company to report the damage. They will assign a claim number and begin their internal review. Taking photos or videos of the affected areas early is helpful and recommended.

Step 2 — Initial Insurance Inspection

Your insurance company will send a field adjuster to inspect the affected areas and prepare their initial quote for repairs. This quote serves as their starting point based on their onsite evaluation.

HERE’S WHERE RAPID REFURB STEPS IN TO HELP

Rapid Refurb performs a thorough onsite evaluation of the damage and repair needs. We then prepare a detailed, itemized repair quote based on real construction requirements and material standards specific to your home.

This quote, along with supporting documentation such as notes, measurements, and photos, is sent to your insurance company. Rapid Refurb then stays in communication with the carrier to ensure they have everything needed to continue processing your claim efficiently and without avoidable delays.

Step 4 — Finalize Scope of Work & Schedule Repairs

Once the insurance company completes their review and approves the repair scope, Rapid Refurb meets with you to finalize material selections, timeline expectations, and any upgrades or preferences. This finalized plan becomes your official Scope of Work. At this stage, your project is placed on our schedule.

Step 5 — Funds Issued to the Homeowner

Insurance payment is issued directly to you, the homeowner. This payment typically reflects the approved scope of repairs, minus your deductible. These funds are used to move forward with your scheduled restoration work.

Step 6 — Repairs Begin

With your Scope of Work finalized and your project scheduled, Rapid Refurb begins restoring your home. We manage the project from start to finish and keep you updated along the way. All workmanship is backed by our 7-year craftsmanship warranty, providing lasting peace of mind.

Key Terms You Should Know

Understanding Common Insurance & Repair Terms

Insurance claims and construction contracts can sometimes feel overwhelming. Here’s a quick guide to key terms you’ll likely see during your repair process, and what each one means for you as the homeowner.

ACV (Actual Cash Value)

The value of a damaged item at the time of the loss, after accounting for age and wear. This amount is often lower because it includes depreciation.

Example: A 10-year-old carpet that costs $4,000 to replace may have an ACV of around $1,000.

RCV (Replacement Cost Value)

The cost to replace the item with new materials of similar kind and quality, without subtracting depreciation. This applies only if your policy includes Replacement Cost coverage.

Deductible

The portion of the repair cost you are responsible for. This amount is subtracted from the insurance payment and paid directly to the contractor.

Example: If repairs total $10,000 and your deductible is $1,000, your insurance pays you $9,000.

Field Adjuster

This is the insurance representative who visits your home in person to review and document the damage. Their findings are used to create the insurance company’s initial repair quote.

Desk Adjuster

The desk adjuster works remotely to review quotes, photos, and documentation. They help finalize your insurance company’s approved repair scope.

Settlement

The total amount your insurance company agrees to pay for your approved repairs. This may be issued in one payment or in multiple installments depending on the claim.

Settlement Statement

A detailed breakdown showing your approved repair costs, deductible, issued payments, and any remaining funds your carrier may still owe.

Scope of Work (Important!)

The Scope of Work is the official repair agreement between you and Rapid Refurb. It outlines exactly what repairs will be completed and reflects your final material choices and project decisions.

Once signed, the Scope of Work becomes the primary document guiding your repairs — even if insurance documents differ — ensuring the work aligns with the actual conditions of your home.

Understanding these steps and key terms can empower you to manage your homeowners insurance claim effectively, ensuring that your home and belongings are restored with as little stress as possible. If you ever need assistance with repairs or restorations, remember that Rapid Refurb is here to help.
