Navigating Insurance can be a chore.
Rapid Refurb can guide you through the whole process.
Claims Process
🛠️ The Insurance Claim Process – Simplified
When disaster strikes, dealing with insurance can feel overwhelming. That’s where we come in. Here’s how the process works — and how Rapid Refurb makes it easier:
Step 1: File Your Claim
You notify your insurance company about the damage — whether it’s from water, fire, or emergency mitigation.
Step 2: Field Adjuster Visit
The insurance company sends a field adjuster to inspect the damage and create an estimate.
This is often the first version of what they think repairs will cost.
Step 3: Desk Adjuster Review
A desk adjuster (who may never visit your home) reviews the report and decides what insurance will actually pay.
Unfortunately, this number often falls short of what’s truly needed to fix everything properly.
Step 4: Rapid Refurb Takes Over
We step in and:
Create our own estimate based on real repair costs
Submit that to insurance
Negotiate directly with the adjusters on your behalf
Our goal? Get you fairly compensated so the job gets done right — not just done cheap.
Step 5: Settlement Issued
Once an agreement is reached, insurance sends out payment. But remember — they subtract your deductible.
Example:
Insurance settlement: $10,000
Your deductible: $1,000
You receive: $9,000 from insurance
You pay: $1,000 out of pocket to the contractor
Step 6: Repairs Begin
With your payment secured, Rapid Refurb gets to work — rebuilding your home to pre-loss condition, stress-free and fully warrantied.
Why It Matters
Insurance claims are complex. If you don’t have someone in your corner, you may end up underpaid, overwhelmed, or stuck doing repairs yourself. Rapid Refurb fights for what you’re owed — and handles the job from start to finish
Repair and Restoration
After the Claim: Starting Repairs with Rapid Refurb
Once your insurance settlement is approved (or if you choose to move forward out of pocket), here’s what happens next:
Step 7: Hire Your Repair Contractor
You can use your insurance funds — or pay out‑of‑pocket up front — to start repairs immediately.
This is highly recommended for the fastest possible restoration timeline.
Even if you haven’t yet received the full settlement, you can move forward confidently knowing those funds are on the way. Rapid Refurb handles the repair work and coordinates directly with your insurer as needed.
📅 Step 8: Schedule Your Start Date
Once your payment is secured and you notify us, Rapid Refurb guarantees your project will begin within 2 weeks.
Our coordination team ensures materials, crews, and scheduling are all aligned for a smooth start.
💵 Step 9: Reimbursement for Temporary Repairs
If you’ve already paid out of pocket for temporary fixes — such as tarping, plumbing, or equipment rentals — keep your receipts.
These may qualify for reimbursement by your insurance carrier once documentation is submitted.
🏠 Step 10: Restoration Complete
From start to finish, Rapid Refurb manages your rebuild process — ensuring your home is restored quickly, correctly, and with care.
Key Terms You Should Know
Insurance claims and construction contracts can be confusing. Here’s a quick guide to the terms you’ll likely come across — and how they affect your repair process.
ACV (Actual Cash Value)
The value of your damaged item at the time of the loss, accounting for depreciation.
It’s what the item is currently worth, not what it costs to replace.
Example: Your 10-year-old carpet may cost $4,000 to replace — but the ACV might only be $1,000.
RCV (Replacement Cost Value)
The cost to replace the item with new materials of similar kind and quality, without subtracting for depreciation.
This is the amount it takes to make you whole again — assuming your policy includes RCV coverage.
Deductible
The portion of the repair costs you pay out of pocket, subtracted from your claim.
You pay this directly to the contractor as part of the overall cost.
If your insurance covers $10,000 and your deductible is $1,000, they’ll pay you $9,000.
Field Adjuster
A representative from your insurance company who comes to your property to inspect the damage.
They create the first draft estimate used by insurance to evaluate your claim.
Desk Adjuster
An insurance adjuster who works remotely to review estimates, photos, and documentation.
They finalize your settlement offer and determine what the insurance company will pay.
Settlement
The agreed-upon payment amount the insurance company will issue to cover your loss.
This includes repairs, contents replacement, and may come in one or more checks.
Always review your settlement carefully to ensure it reflects the full scope of damage.
Settlement Statement
A line-by-line breakdown of what the insurance company has agreed to pay.
It shows:
Your total approved amount
What’s been subtracted (like your deductible)
How much has been issued and what may still be pending
Scope of Work (Critical!)
The Scope of Work is the official contract between you and Rapid Refurb.
It outlines exactly what repairs we will perform and reflects your final decisions about the project.
🔹 Unlike an estimate or a settlement statement, the Scope of Work takes priority.
🔹 It reflects real-world conditions, change orders, and your final choices as the homeowner.
🔹 Once signed, it becomes the document that governs all repair work.
Because the nature and size of repair projects often change — Rapid Refurb follows the Scope of Work above any other documents created by us or your insurance.
Understanding these steps and key terms can empower you to manage your homeowners insurance claim effectively, ensuring that your home and belongings are restored with as little stress as possible. If you ever need assistance with repairs or restorations, remember that Rapid Refurb is here to help.
Repairing more than just homes!
Selecting the right repair contractor can be the difference between waiting weeks and months before your home is restored.
